ZANINI with A&S – 2023SS Collection
After working with brands such as Halston, Rochas, and Schiaparelli, Marco Zanini launched his eponymous brand in 2019. Arts & Science has been the exclusive stockist of ZANINI in Japan ever since the debut of the brand. We are pleased to announce our second collaborative project with ZANINI, which will launch on Friday, June 30th at A&S Aoyama, A&S Kyoto, and A&S Fukuoka.
The ZANINI x ARTS & SCIENCE collection was created in collaboration with Marco Zanini, who took inspiration from the unique textiles developed by Arts & Science for its clothing collections. The latest collaborative pieces are designed in particular for our classic high-count fine linen,* one of the most beloved original fabrics used at A&S. These textiles shimmer with beautiful color gradations that come from traditional Amami-Oshima mud and indigo dyeing techniques.
Our vision for the collaboration was a special voluminous dress to be made using this luxurious material. In response, Marco Zanini produced sketches of two dresses and an embroidery design titled “folk” that was originally conceived for just one of the styles. The dress patterns were developed based on the drawings and sewn into life. The embroidery design was stitched by machine using a specified silk thread. The entire production was carried out in Japan. When Marco Zanini came to Arts & Science to check the samples, he liked them so much that he decided to add embroidery to both dress styles.
Tuck Dress
Open-front shirtdress with fine tucks in the front and large box tucks in the back. The color scheme on the back of the dress was created by Marco Zanini, who cut and pasted the colors together by hand during the dress making process.

Back Ribbon Dress
This dress opens at the back. Both the front and back are gathered from the bottom of the yoke, creating a trapeze line that extends to the hem. The off-white color was created with weddings in mind.

PROFILE
Marco Zanini was born to an Italian father and a Swedish mother in 1971 and grew up in Milan. In 2009, he became the head of the prêt-à-porter department at Rochas. In 2013, he became the creative director of Schiaparelli. In 2017, Zanini presented a collaboration with Santoni, and in 2019, he founded his independent eponymous brand.
