Ritsue Mishima – "a casa mia"

The first exhibition of works by glass artist Ritsue Mishima at Arts & Science opened at CORNER in Kyoto on April 28 and ran through May 7, 2023. For this exhibition, Mishima, whose works are usually rooted in fine art, looked toward function and made glass works for everyday use. The pieces were developed specially for Arts & Science in celebration of our 20th anniversary. The collection includes bowls, plates, and glasses. Even after the exhibition, Mishimi will continue to produce a variety of beautiful, practical pieces through the end of the year, and these can be pre-ordered or purchased through A&S.

Steve Harrison – "The Age of the Beaker"

We are pleased to announce a new exhibition by British ceramic artist Steve Harrison, opening on May 19, 2023. The Age of the Beaker takes inspiration from the history, development, and deeper human significance of the beaker. Taking center stage is Harrison’s Meal Beaker, a singular form that developed out of three years of research. The exhibition also encompasses forms created in the course of his research, which Harrison refers to as Evolution Beakers. The pieces will also be incorporated into food events in Tokyo and Kyoto, and the artist will travel to Japan and take part in these events – a wonderful opportunity to share in the full experience Harrison envisions for his ceramic forms.
