This year’s selection includes the straw zodiac ornament for the Year of the Sheep, Me-detashi, Kikusumi no Hana-dome (a flower holder made from a charcoal block with a chrysanthemum-like pattern), Kikusumi to Tsuyu-uchi (Mist Sprayer), and Hana-mizutsugi (a vessel for replenishing water in a flower container.).
Me-detashi is a decoration that pairs a hanging vase of green bamboo with willow branches adorned with mochi flowers. The willow is likened to ripe rice ears bowing under the weight of their grain, and its branches are adorned with three-colored mochi made with horse chestnut and mugwort. With water in the bamboo tube, the willow may take root and sprout as the weather warms. In spring, the young leaves can be enjoyed alongside the mochi flowers.
These decorations bring Mitate’s distinctive touch to longstanding customs. We invite you to view them in store as part of your preparations for welcoming the New Year.
