Peter Ivy “Lucidia”

An exhibition by glass blower Peter Ivy will be held at HIN Aoyama from July 11, and at A&S Fukuoka from July 18. With Lucidia—a word coined for this exhibition—as its theme, the show presents works including lights and objects, which he has been increasingly focused on in recent years, using mirrors, silver leaf, and white lines.

Event details

The exhibition features a new series of lights with thin silver leaf applied to their interiors. The muted, distinctive luster of silver reveals a rich range of expression. Also on view are shallow, high-rimmed plates reminiscent of Petri dishes and glasses – vessels that accompany the everyday dining table, and a new version of the Cone Vase, in which white lines flow through pale gray glass.

We invite you to experience this body of work that reflects Peter Ivy’s current worldview.

MESSAGE

“Lucidia is a neologism created specifically as the title and theme of this exhibition.

Silver, tinted glass, a single white line in space describing an otherwise invisible form.
Reflecting on the shared aesthetic qualities of these materials, I arrived at this word.

Lucidia describes objects that emerge from a state of lucid awareness and, through their presence, invite a similar condition of clarity.

The works suggest a state of gentle reverie—a subtle sensation of suspension in which the veil separating one’s inner and outer worlds begins to fade.”
