KONRAD

KONRAD is a new brand founded by Konrad Huber, who is German and who has worked in the ski and sportswear industry. He built his career in Hamburg and Munich, where he was also responsible for the luxury line of womenswear for several brands, working on a wide range of products, hand in hand closely with the designers.

When the designer of the brand he was working for passed away, it led him to question the meaning of his lifework, and he decided to leave the company to start his own brand. KONRAD is not a themed collection that follows the fashion seasons. He expresses the collections are like chapters in a book. The brand combines tradition, innovation and fantasy and can be worn throughout the year and are seasonless.

“Clothes should be fun and uncomplicated in my eyes. But they should also be well-made and should last for a long time. I want my garments ‘to be at home with the person who is wearing them’. I do not want to just create pieces that are absolutely new each season, but pieces that are timeless, easy and accompany the wearer for more than just one season.”

This is why there are repeat shapes and prints, sometimes in a different colorway, and sometimes just as they were. All of the prints are exclusive designs, created together with two of the best printing studios in Como and printed on either recycled or natural materials. To relate to human beings and how everyone has good and bad days, most of KONRAD pieces are reversible to show a ‘loud,’ printed side or a more quiet side depending on the mood we are in. For the padding he works with a small company in Northern Italy /near Venice where they make a lightweight padding out of recycled cashmere, recycled wool and recycled polyester. KONRAD’s production is done by some small companies that deliver excellent workmanship and are all based in Europe.

All the pieces in the collections have names of people that are important in Huber’s everyday life. “KONRAD is driven by passion, fantasy, ethics and friendship with significant people in my life who push me to take risks and explore new directions – friends who constantly contribute and inspire my daily and creative life.”

Konrad Huber
After graduating from Parsons School of Design in New York, Huber started his career as an intern at the amazing and inspiring Geoffrey Beene Atelier under the guidance of the late Alber Elbaz. He worked as the assistant to the German designer, Wolfgang Joop, taking care of all products in his womenswear collections. After nearly 6 years in Hamburg, Huber became Head of Design / Womenswear and the luxury Sônia Bogner line. Huber started KONRAD during lockdown with the idea of creating a small collection that is written in his own language, created from the heart and hand.
