A&S 2024SS – Linen Cotton Check

The Linen Cotton Check fabric combines thick French linen single yarns for the warp and medium-count cotton double yarns for the weft, woven into a houndstooth check pattern using a Dobby loom. The warp yarns, which are visible on the surface, are made prominent, while the weft yarns, which hold the structure together, are more discreet. Because the warp yarns are prone to breakage due to their extended length, skilled artisans meticulously adjust the loom to prevent such occurrences while weaving.

“Dobby” refers to the device that controls the complex opening of vertical threads required for weaving intricate patterns or weave structures requiring multiple heddles. A loom equipped with this device is called a Dobby loom, and the resulting fabric is referred to as Dobby weave or Dobby fabric.

Although it may appear to be a houndstooth pattern at first glance, this check pattern is designed to create interest by using items with different patterns for coordination. To achieve this, patterns of various sizes are produced with the same specifications. This fabric, woven in Bishu, the wool-producing region, showcases the inherent luster of French linen yarn, resulting in a sophisticated, smooth wrinkle-resistant texture. Most women’s items come with linings, which have a soft finish achieved through minimal stitching. Meanwhile, unisex items are crafted in a casual single-layered style to emphasize lightness.

A wide range of items including coats, jackets, blouses, and pants are available. While the arrival dates vary depending on the item, we plan to introduce them gradually at A&S stores starting from March 8th (Friday). We invite you to visit our stores to see these items in person.
