Message from Marco Zanini
Homme Collection - A GRACEFUL MISCHIEF
“Spring Summer 2025 is inspired by one of the fondest memory of my childhood: the characters of the Swedish children’s books writer Astrid Lindgren (1907-2002). One in particular, the mischevious five-years-old farm-boy Emil of ‘Emil in Lönneberga’, written by Lindgren in 1962 (and illustrated by Björn Berg, 1923-2008).
The naive stories of the naughty – yet lovable and kindhearted – little Emil were turned into a successful TV series in the early 1970s: 1 vividly remember awaiting for each new episode to air on TV. The humble costumes and the pastoral setting in an imagined turn-of-the-century rural Sweden fascinated me as a child and profoundly informed my creativity. To me they certainly are something I still – perhaps unconsciously – reference in my profession to this very day.
I find an uncanny affinity between the Nordic aesthetic of ‘Emil in Lönneberga’ and Arts&Science’s flair for genuine natural fabrics and soulful clothes.
Sometimes the connections and juxtapositions that one happens to make may seem totally random or even odd, but they almost magically often come from a place which is very alert: most of the times they are whispered from the heart.
So, with this new Men’s season, we find ourselves – once more – in a dreamlike Arcadia set between Sweden and Japan.”
Femme Collection - AN ETHEREAL BEAUTY
“To stay in a sort of similar Scandinavian mood as in our Homme collection, I looked here at the work of Swedish photographer John Alinder (1878-1957).
His profoundly human photographs are a time-travel to a a bygone era that looks graceful and feels dreamy.
The simple people portrayed are often wearing their best clothes, and this exactly what makes the pictures so inspiring: there is a poignant elegance in the great care with which those villagers posed for the camera, and that kind of gentleness is what I always try to capture when I design my collections.
Curiously, all Alinder’s portraits were taken in the warm season, which makes them an exhilarating reference for our Spring/Summer 2025 collection.”
PROFILE
Marco Zanini
Born in 1971 to an Italian father and Swedish mother, Marco Zanini was raised in Milan. In 2009, he became the head of the prêt-à-porter collection at ROCHAS, and in 2013, he took on the role of Creative Director at Schiaparelli. His varied career includes a collaboration with Santoni in 2017, and in 2018, he launched his independent eponymous brand. In 2022, we embarked on the ZANINI with A&S venture.
