At HIN Kyoto, the exhibition centers on furniture that accompanies daily life, including daybeds, glass cabinets, and chairs. At HIN Aoyama, a selection of products will be exhibited and available for purchase, including the new stainless steel soban (a traditional Korean small table), umbrella stands, and incense holders.
In addition, as the exhibition’s central new work, the stainless steel stool NYORO will be presented at both venues. This work reflects the subtle fluctuations and presence that emerge in the making process, and embodies KITAWORKS’ recent approach to making.
Starting from “how it will be used,” KITAWORKS continues to create while carefully observing acts of daily life such as sitting, placing, displaying, and storing. We invite you to take this opportunity to experience the appeal of forms derived from structure and function.
PROFILE
The history of KITAWORKS dates back to 1978 with the founding of Kita Welding Industry, a community-based factory in the town of Tsuyama-shi in Okayama prefecture. The company was renamed KITAWORKS in 2009 and continues its more than forty-year tradition of producing custom-made furniture using welding techniques. The pieces are made with a range of metals, including iron, stainless steel, copper, and brass, and are specially designed to function seamlessly with existing furniture and in the spaces where they will be enjoyed. KITAWORKS also designs and manufactures furniture for retail spaces.
