Behind the scenes: Hakimono Sekizuka’s production
Under the theme of “Japanese footwear, not shoes,” Sekizuka proposes footwear that can be used daily by everyone, not limited to the demographic of people and places.
Zouri (¥63,000 +Tax〜)
With an atelier in Iwakura, Kyoto, Hakimono Sekizuka takes care of everything from footwear design, manufacturing, and sales, and provide detailed services from tailor-made support to aftercare including adjustments and repairs after purchase. What kind of customers, what kind of clothes, and what kind of scenes will the footwear be paired with? These questions are what Sekizuka imagines when he works on the design. The footwear, which is created by hand throughout the entire process, consists of his personal perceptions of intricate colors and balance.
While emphasizing the actions of the user he imagines the process from inserting the foot to walking. Sekizuka makes products that pursue comfort. He also would like to stress the concept of removing the current fixed concept of Japanese footwear & kimono styling, and propose a more neutral and easily acceptable entry to the item.
Leather Socks〈Tanhi〉 × Zouri
Leather socks〈Tanhi〉 (¥23,000 +Tax) Zouri sandals (¥78,000 +Tax 〜)
This project was born from Sekizuka’s thought, “Wouldn’t it be interesting to set up leather socks and footwear and propose them to wear with modern clothes?” The idea resulted in a combination of leather socks using the highest quality Spanish sheep and footwear using the same material. I think you can feel the unity of appearance and the unique aesthetic created by combining these leathers.
Tabi is made to wear with sandals and were originally made of leather. There is a reason why Sekizuka made these Tanhi leather socks is because wearing leather socks with traditional Japanese sandals will greatly increase the stability and tension of the foot, to enable smooth walking. It also has the advantage of more comfort than wearing sandals barefoot. Tanhi can also be worn as a room shoe. It stimulates the acupuncture points on the crotch of the toes with a feeling similar to being barefoot, which increases concentration of acupuncture points on the foot while keeping indoor walking indoors comfortable.
In this event, Sekizuka has prepared several types of sandals for both men and women. You can customize your favorite sandals by choosing the leather, color, and specifications of the thong. The leather socks, Tanhi are available in 4 colors. We welcome you to try the sandals and leather socks together and experience the special feeling of the sharpened senses in your foot. When Sekizuka is present in the store, we also accept consultations on special customizations.
