Our August delivery items feature an offering which mainly consists of A&S’s classic fabrics. This feature explores the uniqueness of our “high count special cotton” and how they are different according to the types of yarn count.

Our August delivery items feature an offering which mainly consists of A&S’s classic fabrics. This feature explores the uniqueness of our “high count special cotton” and how they are different according to the types of yarn count.
“High count special cotton” is our classic fabric developed by A&S. For this fabric, we use single yarns made from India’s highest quality extra-long staple cotton which are exclusively created for A&S. The yarns are closely woven together to obtain its maximum density. In order to achieve a texture which almost resembles hand woven fabrics, yarns are slowly woven by Jacquard shuttle looms. The fabric is free from finishing processes which use chemical substances. For the dyeing, a method called jet dyeing is used and the fabric is hung-dried on poles. This allows us to color the fabric and make the most use of its texture without adding extra tension to it. “High count special cotton” is the fruit of these simple processes which brings out the ultimate texture of the material itself.
Three types of yarn count and their characteristics
“High count special cotton” has numerous variations according to its yarn count (the fineness of the yarn). For the 19AW season, we selected three types of yarn counts for their practicality. Thanks to its medium thickness, “40” is perfect for early-autumn bottoms and coats. “60” is highly versatile and clothes using this fabric can be worn throughout the season. Sheer and light “80” is featured in different items with various combinations. But they all have one point in common: the comfortable suppleness which only fabrics woven to its maximum density can achieve.
