KITAWORKS exhibition vol.3

KITAWORKS, based in Okayama, creates furniture made of metal. A special exhibition and order event focusing on chairs will be held at HIN in Kyoto starting Friday, November 1, and at OVER THE COUNTER in Tokyo starting Friday, November 22.

Event details

Founded in 2009 by Takashi Kita, KITAWORKS is a workshop specializing in furniture made from metals including iron, stainless steel, copper, and brass. Using welding techniques passed down from his father’s factory, Kita has focused on researching brass, a material much more difficult to weld than iron. The result is exquisitely delicate brass furniture, a rarity in the industry. KITAWORKS creates pieces that beautifully balance design and functionality, making them a perfect fit for daily living.

For this exhibition and order event, we are highlighting a range of chair designs, all elegantly expressed through fine, beautiful lines, and being shown for the first time at ARTS&SCIENCE. The display centers around four types of chairs, complemented by side tables, lights, and a special edition daybed upholstered in A&S’s original fabric. We will also be showcasing glass cabinets and stools, which are staples of the collection.

The forms and curves, achieved through a process of trial and error, reflect what the creator finds “beautiful.” “There are no guidelines or rules—it’s purely based on intuition and feeling,” remarks designer Takashi Kita, who will be in-store on Friday, November 1, the opening day. We look forward to welcoming you.

MESSAGE

Regarding beauty:

“When I create something, I start with an image, which I translate into a blueprint or sketch. I make a rough prototype and then revise it in various ways. I remake it several times until aspects such as strength, functionality, and proportion reach a balanced harmony. During this process, I try to ensure that my senses are free from preconceptions, aspirations, or longings, and instead remain pure. When I do this, I believe the result naturally becomes something beautiful.”
