A&S Replica Series

We present gathered tunics worn by farmers in rural Europe from the 19th century to the mid-20th century and night shirts worn by aristocrats while relaxing indoors. At this time, the majority of the processes to make clothes was done manually. The pattern work is simple – the cloth width is used as it is from the rolls of fabric, including the selvage edges and more often the clothes are cut into a basic square pattern, then a few gathers and tucks are added along the body line to make basic clothes that are easy to work and live in.

As you can see, the way vintage clothes are shaped reflect how people lived their lives in a certain era. Over time, a piece of clothing can be passed down to the hands of several owners. The fabrics are softened and worn, sometimes repaired, giving it a unique aesthetic. All of these vintage clothes are unique in an individual way.

This replica series is created by interacting with the original vintage items, and taking in consideration of all the original intentions of the clothes maker. Then, we make our interpretation at A&S to recreate the pieces into a modern form. All the fabrics are A&S originals selected carefully to respect the original vintage creations. Please enjoy how they wear with age and how the fabric learns to gradually fit your body more and more.
