From Friday, March 4th to March 31st, a trunk show for jewelry brand Mariko Tsuchiyama will be held at Arts & Science Marunouchi. We invite you on this occasion to see her world of pearl jewelry.

About the Designer

Mariko Tsuchiyama, a jewelry designer, spent her childhood in Nagasaki. She was fascinated by the beauty of pearls every time she visited a pearl farm near her home. After earning her bachelor’s degree, she dived in to the world of jewelry making. After traveling to the UK to work as a production assistant under Marc Monzó and Rossita Bonita while studying jewelry design at the Central Saint Martins, she launched her own brand in 2012. She currently resides and works at Brighton’s studio in southeast England. Inspired by elements in nature such as nuts and seeds, shells, stems of plants and the characteristics of a woman’s bare skin, she uses pearls to express the beauty and providence of nature and applies its elements to her jewelry creation.

About Pearl Jewelry

  • ¥181,500 (incl. tax)

Mariko Tsuchiyama uses pearls from various countries and regions. She especially prefers to select Akoya Pearls from Nagasaki, Kyushu, which is her birth place. Akoya pearls from Japan have a long-established reputation for their high quality, and are cultivated in clean, calm currents. Although it is carefully cultivated over a period of about 4 years while checking the water quality and the condition of the shellfish, only about 20% to 25% of the total pearls can be grown to a full size to be collected. In recent years, the pearls are become more and more rare due to the decrease in production.

Unique distorted pearls such as teardrops and baroques are also often seen in her collection and tailored to create jewelry that makes the most of their individuality and charm. All clasps are handmade by the Tsuchiyama to match the pearls one by one.
