AT THE CORNER “NADIA with WHITE” | Photo Report

The works presented here were all shot at an abandoned western-style building in Old Karuizawa. Tennis courts overrun with weeds, forlorn gardens and interiors in ruin… It is said that Sawatari and the model, Nadia Galli deliberately chose this location as the setting for the shooting.

Nadia is seen wearing a voluminous full gathered dress which was originally inspired from pajamas of the ancient Roman era. Wearing this dress, Nadia runs through the field and jumps off a tree. As she stands up and crouches down, the dress undulates upon each movement. Sawatari captured these movements to bring them together in his celebrated work ＜NADIA＞ in 1972.

＜NADIA＞ is the inspiration behind ARTS&SCIENCE’s collection of items in white. We revisited the universe of Sawatari’s work by recreating blouses, tunics and long dresses like the one Nadia was wearing. We bring you a collection of accessories such as shoes and bags to match the garments with a unique focus toward “movements”.

In addition to rare printed editions, a limited edition of ＜NADIA with WHITE＞ which was created for this occasion with careful attention to binding and paper will also be available for sale (12 photos / total 14 pages / irregular B3 size / also available in autographed editions).
