A&S | Flat Series

Flat Series is our collection where A&S redefines the construction of folk costumes which were originally made to make full use of the limited fabric. The sharp draping and the expansion towards the hem is achieved when a three-dimensional body is covered in a two-dimensional fabric. Such pieces are unique for their silhouette and comfort which cannot be obtained by today’s ready-made clothes.

Flat line trapeze coat has a slight expansion towards its hem. It is a versatile piece which can be worn as a coat or can be arranged with the belt made from the same fabric. This piece is made from an extremely dense fabric using ultra-thin hemp yarn.

Flat long dress is a long dress featuring slits at the bottom of both sides and on the neckline. Broken twill, the fabric used for this piece, is made from the combination of fine and low count hemp yarns. The navy color of the weft is obtained by indigo dye, resulting in a unique mélanged hue. A pair of wide pants will go well to create a seasonal appearance.

Flat open-collar shirt is our classical summer shirt with slits at the bottom of both sides. The seamless shoulders and the only seam on the back center of the body gives a fit feeling. By wearing the shirt collar slightly backwards, the hem will have a flowing drape. Available in genderless sizes.

Flat kurta is an arranged version of our classical kurta shirts. It is made from a flat pattern by using an extremely dense fabric made from extra-fine washi (Japanese paper) yarn which has been processed into two-ply yarns. The fabric is later dyed in ai (Japanese indigo). The sleeves are slightly narrow whereas the slits on the bottom of both sides cuts deep. Available in genderless sizes.

*The embroidered blouse which appears in our catalogue as item No.061 comes in the same fabric as the kurta shirt shown here. The shirt on the catalogue is a women’s item with different hues depending on the ai dyeing process.
