Since wild crocodiles are strictly controlled by the Washington Convention Act, we have used leather from bred crocodiles. Thus, this is a material that will disappear if the aquaculture industry disappears. Crocodile leather is an extremely durable material with excellent durability due to its dense fibers. You can see finely rounded shape depending on the parts of the leather, and the pattern of square shapes are just like woven bamboo knots, and as no two parts are exactly alike, the originality of each item made by crocodile is a rare chrematistics that is not found in other animal leathers. It is a material that can be used for a long time because the more it is used, the more the shape will become familiar to people’s hands and the depth of the fine luster and texture will increase over time.

INFORMATION

In order to maximize the beauty of leather, the skills of the tanner – a craftsman who tans the leather, is indispensable. A&S crocodiles are always handled by Japanese reptile tanners. Crocodile leather is said to be difficult to tan, dye, and sew due to its uneven shape, and it takes highly skilled techniques to tan the leather whilst adding oil to add a supple softness. Oil penetrates to the core of the leather, which protects the surface from noticeable scratches, and the intensity of the color will change depending on the amount of oil. Excellent dyeing skill is required for a uniform finish. Our crocodile leather is dyed from the inside using a water-soluble dye, and the leather surface is minimally processed. The finish is done so you can enjoy expressive aging features while leaving a transparency and a natural matte texture.

Crocodiles cannot be mass-produced due to their scarce numbers. In addition, over fifty different processes are required to tan, dye, and sew the raw leather. We welcome you to come take look at this expertise finish of crocodile leather is all processed in Japan.
