- MARQUESS “Semi-Custom Order 2021”
A semi-custom order event for the bespoke shoe brand <MARQUESS> will be held at SHOES and THINGS for one month from October 4th (Mon.) to October 30th (Sat.).
We also accept semi-custom orders where you can choose from nine individual shoe style, and you may choose the leather/colour of your preference. We include rare options such as crocodile leather, which is not usually available in the lineup. This season, we are introducing a new military boot style called <YORK>, which is included in the seasonal collection as well as an option for a semi-order.
Our MARQUESS order events are held twice a year seasonally, and this time as well designer Shoji Kawaguchi will be present. Kawaguchi will be at the shop for two days, 10.30 (Sat.) and 31 (Sun.) This is a rare opportunity for visitors to consider a personal order while consulting directly with the designer about not only fit but also foot issues. If you already have a pair of MARQUESS shoes purchased at A&S, we would like you to wear them when visiting the shop. Kawaguchi will let you know the condition of your worn-in shoes and give you his personal advice.
<YORK> Military Officers Boots
“My British Military Officers Boots reflect the style’s ‘history and dignity.’ A no-waste simple design with military-like functional beauty. While maintaining the style’s orthodox appearance, we were particular about finishing it in a manner that is appropriate for a women’s shoe.
For this production, we designed a slightly looser wooden pattern than before, giving the boots a comfortable shape with the ankles firmly fixed at the wings. Made from finely embossed French leather, the texture is made to enjoy as well. Unlike its solid appearance, these boots give you a soft feel and lightness when worn.
I have designed the ‘Military Officers Boots’ with the hopes that it will become a standard shoe for all women.
” ― MARQUESS / Shoji Kawaguchi

- 『20 mugs and 20 pots for 2020 / Steve Harrison』
A blind auction of total 40 works by British ceramic artist Steve Harrison was held at the end of last year, “20 mugs and 20 pots for 2020.” We share with you this special selection made during the lockdown and a personal message from Steve, “I was unable to travel to Japan this year; a visit that has become part of my potting journey. As the home has become a place where we live and work in 2020, I had to use my imagination to find inspiration. Without people, pots have no context, only developing greater significance and deeper meaning through constant use. As a way of saying thank you to all my friends in Japan, I have sent over my best pots of this year.”
A booklet that summarizes these works is now ready to share with you. “20 mugs and 20 pots for 2020” will be on sale at Arts & Science shops from May 14, 2021 (Friday). This is Steve Harrison's third publishment following “Pots” in 2014 and “BIG IN JAPAN” in 2019.- TITLE

We will be presenting an exhibition for Sho Bok Si at HIN in Kyoto and OVER THE COUNTER in Tokyo.
“Sajiya” is a project that started in 2018 by Atsushi Sakai. Sakai is a master wood craftsman who sponsors the gallery studio under his other artist name, “Sajiya” in Okayama Prefecture. Thinned wood from the olive groves in Okayama is mainly used in his work, and each piece is modeled while he communicates with the different expressions and faces of every different type of wood.
This is Sho Bok Si's second exhibition at Arts & Science, and in addition to the one-of-a-kind items in large and small sizes, size 25 spoons and coffee spoons will be exhibited and available for sale.

- William Welstead Trunk Show 2020
Every December for the last 14 years I have been lucky enough to come to Tokyo to show my collection to friends and clients of Arts & Science. This year will be different, and while I am unable to travel I will still be sending a selection of my new work to Arts & Science for my annual trunk show.
In addition to the unusual diamonds and precious coloured stones that I normally work with I will be presenting a small collection of cabochon cut stones set in 22 carat gold. I am inspired by the ancient English and European royal jewels that were made before cutting techniques allowed faceted stones to be made. Cabochons were often a simply polished pebble from a river bed but when they are set in a jewel they can make a very powerful statement. These beautiful, sculptural stones show colour and lustre in very subtle way that I have always found very appealing.
I will miss coming to Japan more than I can say and hope very much to visit in 2021. My very best wishes to everyone who has been kind enough to come to my trunks shows over the years.

- TENTHOUSANDTHINGS Stone Collection
We will hold a jewelry custom order event by TENTHOUSANDTHINGS at & SHOP in Tokyo and Kyoto. This is a unique project in which designers Ron and David have traveled to India to work on a collection of original stones with the local craftsmen. At this event, we welcome you to choose your favorite stone with chains or leather straps to make your own one-of-a-kind combination. We will also introduce their new original 2020 collection.
Original stones made in India
The two designers Ron Anderson and David Rees had always a strong connection with natural stones. Even when their concept of making jewelry was first born, it was their fascination of ancient stone beads that drove their passion. From the desire to make their original jewelry by applying a shaped cut to an unprocessed natural stone, they traveled to Jaipur, India. The process takes several months; to make the mold, bring it to a local workshop, and have the stones hand-cut to fit the mold by professional technicians. In these moments, they would sit down next to a skilled stone cutter for long periods of time to have the shapes formed exactly how they imagined. The stone is then polished through several steps. During this process, new ideas will come up, and some were born by developing changes in the molds on the spot.
“By actually going to the locations of the natural stones, we learned the real thrill of being able to developing these stones in the best ways - true to their characteristics,” said the two designers. Please take this opportunity to customize your favorite jewelry with each one-of-a-kind stone.
“Perseverance has been a big word for us this year, to keep going along our path, making things and trying to put more beautiful, special things out into the world. Looking back over the year i think a pause in our routines- even though enforced by the pandemic- has been a good thing, allowing us to proceed more carefully and thoughtfully. Always look for the silver lining.” — Ron Anderson, David Rees

- Le Yucca’s | Semi-Custom Order
For the first time in two years, we will hold a semi-custom order event for <Le Yucca’s> at SHOES and THINGS.
Le Yucca's shoes are designed in mind with a thorough understanding of the structure of the foot. The attractive characteristics of the shoes lies not only in the beautiful form, but also in the surprising comfort and the ease of wear. Enzo Bonafè, a long-established workshop in Italy, creates each pair of shoes with extraordinary care using an old-fashioned method that does not include adhesives.
In addition to our semi-custom orders, we are offering a preorder opportunity for new styles of Le Yucca's SS21 collection and a special collaboration of pumps for A&S. The collaboration style has a deep slit in the front, and is inspired by a classical design that combines a soft rounded feminine silhouette with a thick piled leather heel. Bolognese (bag-sewn) McKay manufacturing method is used for the sole to create a good bend and fit to the feet.
Please find this occasion to choose your own unique pair of shoes and experience the comfortable fit known to Le Yucca's. We look forward to receiving your appointment request.

- Yaser Shaw “Delivery Information”
Yaser Shaw’s collection of hand spun, hand woven and hand stitched pashmina stoles made from traditional techniques of Kashmir - region of the northwestern Indian subcontinent - will be available at A&S Aoyama and several other A&S stores from Saturday, February 15th.
The original pashmina material is extremely delicate and cannot withstand the pressure caused by machines. By carefully spinning and weaving these materials, they eventually acquire a natural texture which creates an exquisite drape and softness once you put them on. Also, the key to Shaw’s diverse design lies in the meticulous embroidery which is sought after not only by women but also by men. Sophisticated patterns are exquisitely created without adding any stress on the material.
Please come and select your favorite piece among our collection which we handpicked in India. We look forward to your visit.- DELIVERY
