The exhibition will focus on the SECOND CHAIR, a piece that evolved from the FIRST CHAIR presented at the previous exhibition, as well as furniture such as Desk-MAME, which was made especially for A&S by ikken completed through repeated discussions together. A new proposal will also be offered where customers can choose A&S fabric or leather for the seat upholstery of the chairs.
This is a rare opportunity to see a large collection of ikken furniture in one location. We look forward to welcoming you here where you can view the combination of ideas from architects and furniture craftsmen who work together.
PROFILE
Based in Kyoto since 2014, ikken is a design and architecture company that specializes in furniture for houses and shops. The design office is led by architect Takato Yoshida, who collaborates with three furniture craftsmen – Kiyoo Yamanaka, Hitoshi Onishi and Kentaro Yamaguchi – to create all of the products. The design process focuses on the tactile qualities of materials, the insight that comes from working with the hands, and the interplay between thinking and making. Their design approach is palpable in the architectural structure and material presence to the furniture they make. Some of the pieces were conceived specially for ARTS&SCIENCE and grew out of our ongoing dialogue with ikken.
