    Pre-order Furniture Event by ikken

“ikken” is a unit that integrates a design room and a furniture workshop, established in Kyoto in 2014. We will hold their first furniture order reception at ARTS & SCIENCE. We will introduce about 18 different styles of furniture at HIN in Kyoto from Friday, October 2nd and at A&S Daikanyama in Tokyo from Friday, October 16th.

ikken is a unit of two professionals, first-class architect Takato Yoshida and furniture artist Kiyo Yamanaka, who were classmates in the department of architecture at their university. ikken was established in Kyoto in 2014 and directed the architectural design of A&S HIN which opened in 2016. Yoshida studied under architect Yoshifumi Nakamura, and Yamanaka studied under Shigefumi Abe who works on furniture for Lemming house. The year before the establishment of ikken, Yoshida partnered and worked very closely with Hitoshi Onishi, a furniture artist in Kyoto.
Yoshida is mainly in charge of the design, Yamanaka is in charge of producing built-in furniture such as kitchens, and their collaboration with Onishi involves his furniture craftmanship of items such as chairs and tables. A unit also responsible for total space design, ikken always has in mind the harmony of the furniture and architectural space they will reside in.

At this event, the main feature are the furniture pieces that ikken Yoshida selected especially for A&S, one in particular is the *Washi (Japanese-paper) cabinet made by the request of Sonya Park, the owner of ARTS & SCIENCE. The item was creative direction was completed through many repeated discussions between Park and ikken. There will also be various samples on display such as chairs and foldable tables, shelves and coat racks, and special orders can be made with your preferred type of wood and colors. Please take the time to enjoy the exhibition space itself as well, where playful children's chairs and wooden house toys will also be presented.

Up until today, ikken has solely produced custom-made furniture. We welcome you to experience this new type of presentation exclusive to ARTS & SCIENCE.

*「Washi cabinet」will only be on display at A&S Daikanyama.

    Le Yucca’s | Semi-Custom Order

For the first time in two years, we will hold a semi-custom order event for <Le Yucca’s> at SHOES and THINGS.

Le Yucca's shoes are designed in mind with a thorough understanding of the structure of the foot. The attractive characteristics of the shoes lies not only in the beautiful form, but also in the surprising comfort and the ease of wear. Enzo Bonafè, a long-established workshop in Italy, creates each pair of shoes with extraordinary care using an old-fashioned method that does not include adhesives.

In addition to our semi-custom orders, we are offering a preorder opportunity for new styles of Le Yucca's SS21 collection and a special collaboration of pumps for A&S. The collaboration style has a deep slit in the front, and is inspired by a classical design that combines a soft rounded feminine silhouette with a thick piled leather heel. Bolognese (bag-sewn) McKay manufacturing method is used for the sole to create a good bend and fit to the feet.
Please find this occasion to choose your own unique pair of shoes and experience the comfortable fit known to Le Yucca's. We look forward to receiving your appointment request.

    PROFILE
Tomoya Arai creates essential tools for daily life. Some of his pieces have a soft appearance, which he achieves through his distinctive hand-sculpting technique, while his white wood pieces have a rough appearance achieved through purposeful sword cuts that are left visible on the surface. He was born in Osaka in 1983 and moved to Tokyo at the age of 19. He started carving wood at age 23 and the following year, he held his first one-man exhibition at Saruyama in Motoazabu. Arai later moved to Kochi, where he concentrates on his artistic activities (and harvests his own crops) surrounded by the natural beauty of Shimanto.

    Yaser Shaw “Delivery Information”

Yaser Shaw’s collection of hand spun, hand woven and hand stitched pashmina stoles made from traditional techniques of Kashmir - region of the northwestern Indian subcontinent - will be available at A&S Aoyama and several other A&S stores from Saturday, February 15th.

The original pashmina material is extremely delicate and cannot withstand the pressure caused by machines. By carefully spinning and weaving these materials, they eventually acquire a natural texture which creates an exquisite drape and softness once you put them on. Also, the key to Shaw’s diverse design lies in the meticulous embroidery which is sought after not only by women but also by men. Sophisticated patterns are exquisitely created without adding any stress on the material.

Please come and select your favorite piece among our collection which we handpicked in India. We look forward to your visit.
