Yoshifumi Yamamoto “BROWN”

From Friday, April 17, an exhibition by woodcraft artist Yoshifumi Yamamoto will be held at HIN / Arts & Science Kyoto. This marks his second solo exhibition, following “An Unadorned Life, Beautiful Kitchen Utensils” in 2022.

Event details

Yamamoto is known for his white lacquer works. For this exhibition, as a new exploration, he has worked with a cacao-brown lacquer tone.

Titled “BROWN”, as a reflection of this exploration into a new colour, the exhibition presents a large bowl finished in cacao brown. Also on view are vessels such as spouted bowls (katakuchi) and cups, alongside kitchen-related pieces including lacquered Shaker-style boxes, lunch boxes, round boxes with handles, and tea boxes.

We invite you to experience these sincere, quietly beautiful objects that accompany everyday life.

MESSAGE

“Not succumbing to technique
not indulging in tradition
I devote myself fully to daily practice
Not bound by principles
without fixed position in all situations
I close my eyes
sing of solitude
and praise everyday life”
