Introducing Judy Geib Plus Alpha’s latest creation, Cosmic Ornament

For this occasion, designer Judy Geib will be making her long-awaited return to Japan after five years.

On Saturday, March 23rd at A&S Aoyama, we will present the latest creation, Cosmic Ornament, by the American jewelry brand, Judy Geib Plus Alpha. In addition to showcasing this geometrically themed series, we will also introduce jewelry featuring stones such as emeralds. Delve into the world of intricate and refined decorative expressions born from unrestrained imagination and skilled craftsmanship.

In conjunction with this presentation, designer Judy Geib will be making her first visit to Japan in five years and is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to meet our Japanese customers. We warmly invite you to join us at this exclusive event.

“Handmadeness is the overriding theme of my work, but within that practice there are many many ideas which appear and fade away and reappear. My latest series is Cosmic Ornament. It is a look into the power that jewelry holds over us.

The beauty of ornament is that it has two distinct aspects: a familiar comforting prettiness and an unsettling hint of indefinite expansion: a flowery beauty, but also a peek into awe-inspiring unknownness. The infinite expansion and repetition of ornament leads us into the expansiveness of the universe. That, combined with the pleasure of something small and delicate, is Cosmic Ornament. These ornamental pieces combine the familiar with the unfamiliar. Cosmic ornament produces a feeling of awe or sublime along with the beauty of one unit. We are sandwiched between nothing and infinity!”

PROFILE

Hailing from Pennsylvania, USA, Judy Geib was introduced to the world of art at a young age, thanks to her father. Geib’s time in Brazil during high school exposed her to the local culture and the allure of gemstones. After completing university, she stumbled upon jewelry making and became enamored with it. Self-taught, Geib refined her skills and unveiled her debut collection of 12 pieces at Barney’s New York in 2002. Geib continues to craft new and unique pieces, sourcing stones from Brazil, Colombia, and beyond.
