Masao Kozumi “Gyoku

Glass artist Masao Kozumi's solo exhibition will be held at HIN (Kyoto), OVER THE COUNTER (Tokyo) and A&S Fukuoka. The exhibition will tour these three locations from August to September.

Event details

The name of this exhibition is called, ‘Gyoku (Hard, precious stones such as jade, agate and crystal).’ The works are featured in a white color expression reminiscent of white porcelain, known as Gyoku glass. This current series is made of milky white glass. Please enjoy the difference in appearance due to the color. Kozumi’s new Penny Lick glass will also be presented for the first time, which was a special request for a new shape made by Arts & Science. In addition, we will also have a collection of Kozumi’s standard collection of light-green glass pieces. We look forward to welcoming you to the exhibition.

MESSAGE

About the solo exhibition “Gyoku

I like yokan (sweet bean jelly). Not only the taste but it’s appearance, the endless mass of deep, dusty color behind the glossy surface, that can look like a kind of “glaze.” The jade that I melted is actually more like uiro (sweet rice jelly) than yokan. It is said that the ancient emperors named uiro as ‘Touchinkou’ a name that has a beautiful sound. When I am melting the glass of jade, I often think of this drifting sound.

Would you ever so be interested in a glass uiro? I would be honored if you would come and take a look.”
