PROFILE

Sculptor. Born in 1949 in Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture. After graduating from Nagoya College of Art and Design with a degree in sculpture in 1970, he pursued advanced studies in the graduate program. From 1972, he resided in Geneva, Switzerland, where he commenced his artistic journey in 1975, receiving guidance from a master printmaker at a copperplate workshop. In 1977, he graduated from the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Genève, specializing in sculpture, and subsequently devoted himself to copperplate printmaking. He returned to Japan in 1980 and began creating iron sculptures in Tajimi. Otake has held solo exhibitions at various esteemed galleries, including SHINYA, an antique art gallery in Kyoto. In 2020, he was honored with the 10th Enku Award.
