The founder, Riemon \u014cno, devoted himself to appraising agarwood and studying incense materials, laying the foundation for the business as an incense merchant. He studied the Shino-ry\u016b school of incense and later revived a teaching hall for its practice, which has been passed down to the present day. For over 430 years, Kungyokudo has supplied incense to temples throughout Japan.
