exhibition by woodworker Bobby Mills, based in North Devon, England, will be held at HIN Kyoto from Friday, June 5. Featuring new works inspired by his time in Japan, the exhibition brings together furniture and objects that draw on the traces of time etched into the wood and the character of the materials. At the center of the exhibition are new works that grew out of the artist\u2019s experience visiting the Kawai Kanjiro Memorial Museum during his stay in Kyoto. Including low tables and floor chairs, these pieces take inspiration from Japanese living spaces. Also on view for the first time at ARTS&SCIENCE is the artist\u2019s \u2018Charred\u2019 series, distinguished by the deep black tones and rich textures created through the charring of wood, and featuring stools and other furniture works.<\/p>\n

The exhibition also includes works introduced in previous exhibitions that draw on the traces of time etched into the wood over the years and the inherent character of the materials themselves. Bobby Mills earned a First Class BA (Hons) degree in Photography from the University for the Creative Arts and is self-taught in woodworking. He is currently based in North Devon, UK, where he produces one-off works.
