Anzai is a ceramic artist working in Fukushima Prefecture. This marks his first solo exhibition with us, held at ARTS&SCIENCE Aoyama. This exhibition brings Anzai\u2019s body of work into resonance with the A&S Aoyama space\u2014where fashion is proposed and articulated \u2014and presents a sculptural beauty that extends beyond function alone.","flexible_content":[{"acf_fc_layout":"flexible_text","text":"<p>Calm black tones and a subdued luster define the work. The distinctive light emanating from these vessels originates in the making process itself. Black slip is applied to bisque-fired forms, and while carefully gauging the extremely delicate moment just before the clay fully sinters, lacquer-kneaded clay is then layered and polished. Through the repeated layering of this process, depth and a sense of quiet movement emerge in the surface of each vessel.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This exhibition presents primarily flower vessels, selected from works born of meticulous handwork over time. In addition, floral arrangements will be created by ikebana artist Mario Hirama, a long-time associate of the artist. Several vessels will be used in actual arrangements, allowing their presence and quiet character to be experienced.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Through this presentation, a project long nurtured by A&amp;S comes to fruition.
