Masao Kozumi “Glass Onggi”

From Friday April 12th to Sunday April 21st, AT THE CORNER will be hosting our very first solo-exhibition of the glass artist, Masao Kozumi.

Kozumi uses a traditional method dating from the Edo period (between 17th and 19th century) as his model for the creation process. His works evoke a unique green color and a fluctuation due to iron in the glass material. The greatest emphasis which Kozumi puts on his work is that they should be Japanese glasses which match the Japanese table which focus on the “preparation”. In this exhibition where Kozumi’s elegant works with antique allure come together, we will also focus on his new “Glass Onggi” which feature glass vessels glazed in pale colors. We look forward to seeing you there.

Born in 1979 in Kumamoto. Masao Kozumi is a graduate of Toyama City Institute of Glass Art (TIGA). Kozumi currently bases his activity in Gifu. In order to create thin glasses that he uses to create hand blown works, Kozumi uses potash glass containing ashes which result in a unique green tint to the glass. The glass blocks decorating the windows of our store, HIN Arts & Science Nijodori Kyoto is one of Kozumi’s works.
